Welcome to the Faculty of Applied Sciences. As you know, the Faculty of Applied Sciences admits students from the Advanced Level Physical Science Stream who have offered Combined Mathematics and Physics at the Advanced Level Examination.
With the vision to become a premier Applied Science Faculty that enriches the Sri Lanka community with graduates of intellectuality, professionalism, and personality, we need our graduate to be well prepared for the global society through an education rooted in science and industry.
In contrast to what was available in the past, we are pleased to offer you an entirely revised and updated curriculum in which all students shall get opportunity to follow three subject areas from among Computing & Information Systems, Electronics, Industrial Management, and Mathematics & Statistics from Level 1 onwards leading to 3-year B.Sc (General) Degree. After two years of study, all the students can apply for upgrading their registrations to the relevant subject specific special degrees and joint major degrees, which are of four years.
The subject specific special degrees are very competitive as they will be available only for a few students with the highest performance over the first two years. These special degrees have been aimed at providing opportunities for the students who wish to carry on their studies to obtain higher degrees and take up positions in academia or research. All the joint major degrees focus on two of the three subject areas in the original combination and provide the opportunity to experience the working environment at an external organization through a one-semester Industrial Training Programme. It should be mentioned that your selection into these 4-year degrees depends on a performance based internal selection criterion and so I strongly recommend that you work hard from the very first year, should you wish to follow a special degree or a joint major degree in the relevant discipline(s).
Since all degree programmes are within the reach of those who make that extra effort and work with dedication, I invite you to explore these new opportunities created by us and reap maximum benefits through genuine hard work. I wish you good luck.
