Nanotechnology is the understanding and control of matter at dimensions between approximately 1 and 100 nanometers, where unique phenomena enable novel applications. It involves imaging, measuring, modeling, and manipulating materials at atomic, molecular and macromolecular scales, where properties differ significantly from those at a larger scale. Nanotechnology is an interdisciplinary field that encompasses electronics, chemistry, material science, biotechnology, Nano medicine etc. and its applications expanding rapidly to develop products in electronics, environment & energy, and healthcare & medicine with huge potential of increasing demand for nanotechnology workers worldwide.
The Department of Nanotechnology will be established under the Faculty of Applied Sciences. This four year undergraduate degree programme is designed to meet the needs that integrate multidisciplinary fields in order to develop a sound theoretical knowledge and necessary skills to tackle the interdisciplinary challenges required. Students will also be offered significant components from the subject area of Information Technology.
The students from the Advanced Level Technology Stream with the Engineering Technology and the Science for Technology subjects are eligible to apply for the program through University Grant Commission. The university has planned for an annual intake of 75 students starting from the year 2016 and will be increased as years goes by.

This degree programme will contain a compulsory research project, which will expose the students to analyze and innovate to solve real-world problems. As a part of this degree programme all the students are entitled for industrial training programme to gain industrial exposure by working for leading organizations in the field of Nano Technology.
