Wayamba University Research Awards -2017


Most Outstanding Senior Researcher Award 

Prof. (Mrs) Kumudu  Perera and Prof. Kamal Vidanapathirana of Polymer Electronics Research Group of Department of Electronics, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka have jointly won the Most Outstanding Senior Researcher award for the year 2017 at the Research Awards ceremony held on 4th July 2018 at Faculty of Livestock, Fisheries and Nutrition at Makandura premises, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka.

During the year 2017 they have published six indexed journal papers, four refereed journal papers, six conference abstracts. In addition to that they were able to secure three research grants amounting to Rs.  6.62 mn.

Both of them are graduates from University of Peradeniya. They have initiated research activities at Department of Electronics with the establishment of Polymer Electronics Research Laboratory with help of National Research Council grant in 2012. Main research areas they were concentrating are development of materials for the energy storage devices such as rechargeable cells and Supercapacitors. They are focusing on developing low cost energy storage devices with the use of local materials such as Graphite and Natural Rubber to address the demand to store Solar Energy. Up to now they have produced one Ph.D. and currently one Ph.D. and three M.Phil. students are working under their supervision. During the past years they were able to obtain several research grants and thereby develop the research laboratory with most of the necessary equipment and other facilities to carry out their research activities.
