AKO Scholarship Plus Programme Scholarship Awarding Ceremony Held at Wayamba University of Sri Lanka

The Scholarship Awarding Ceremony of the AKO Scholarship Plus Programme was successfully held on 18 th June 2026 at the Main Board Room of the Administrative Building, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka.

The ceremony marked another significant milestone in the partnership between the AKO Foundation and the University in supporting deserving undergraduates through financial assistance and student development initiatives. A total of 80 undergraduate students were awarded scholarships under the programme.

The event was graced by Prof. E.M.P. Ekanayake, the Vice-Chancellor of Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, Managing Trustee and Head of the program of the Mosvold – Martinus Fundation – Mr. Nimal Martinus, Mr. Ranjith Wijekoon, the Deans of Faculties, the Bursar, Administrative staff members, and the scholarship recipients.

In conjunction with the scholarship awarding ceremony, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the AKO Foundation and Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, reaffirming the commitment of both parties to enhancing educational opportunities and student welfare.

During the programme, students were invited to share their feedback and experiences regarding the scholarship scheme. The discussion provided an opportunity for the beneficiaries to express their appreciation for the support received and to highlight the positive impact of the programme on their academic journey and personal well-being.

Students were also encouraged to identify and suggest soft skills and personal development programmes that would be beneficial to their future careers and overall development. Among the areas discussed were leadership development, communication skills, career readiness, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, teamwork, and mental well-being. The feedback received will be considered in planning future student development activities under the AKO Scholarship Plus Programme.

Addressing the gathering, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. E.M.P. Ekanayake, expressed sincere gratitude to the AKO Foundation for its continued support of the University's students and emphasized the importance of such initiatives in promoting equal access to higher education. Representatives of the Foundation reiterated their commitment to empowering students through both financial assistance and capacity-building opportunities.

The AKO Scholarship Plus Programme continues to make a meaningful contribution to the academic success and personal development of students, helping them to achieve their educational aspirations and prepare for future professional challenges.
