The Principal Scientist of United Kingdom Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, Dr. Angus Garbutt met Vice Chancellor Prof. EMP Ekanayake on 24th March 2026.

The Principal Scientist of United Kingdom Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, Dr. Angus Garbutt met Vice Chancellor Prof. EMP Ekanayake on 24th March 2026. The discussions focused on current research led by the university on saltmarsh ecosystems. Dr. Garbutt is currently traveling globally, to harmonize the research and policy initiatives regarding this fragile ecosysten, a part of United Nation’s Saltmarsh Breakthrough. Dr. WMHK Wijenayake  the Head and Prof. S. Jayakody, the Chair Professor of the Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries also joined the discussions. 

 

The discussions revolved around how our university could support this global initiative and ensure mutual benefits.

 

Dr. Angus later joined the ongoing fieldwork and provided important feedback too.
