Wayamba University of Sri Lanka proudly celebrates the participation of Dr. Sevvandi Jayakody, Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries, as a panelist at the Twenty-sixth Meeting of the United Nations Open-ended Informal Consultative Process on Oceans and the Law of the Sea (ICP26), held at the United Nations Headquarters, New York, on 23 June 2025.
Dr. Jayakody delivered a presentation titled “A Science-Backed and Inclusive Paradigm for Coastal Wetland Restoration,” highlighting Sri Lanka’s experiences and best practices in coastal ecosystem restoration. Her presentation emphasized the importance of science-based decision-making, community participation, and collaborative partnerships in restoring coastal wetlands while showcasing Sri Lanka’s contributions to sustainable ocean governance.
The presentation also provided an international platform to highlight the research, outreach, and conservation initiatives undertaken by Wayamba University of Sri Lanka in support of environmental sustainability and coastal ecosystem restoration.
Wayamba University congratulates Dr. Sevvandi Jayakody on this outstanding achievement and for representing both Sri Lanka and the University at one of the world’s most significant forums dedicated to oceans and the law of the sea.
