To cultivate a gender-equitable, inclusive, and violence-free university where diversity is respected, equal opportunities are ensured, and every member of the Wayamba University community can achieve their full potential.

Goal

To promote gender equity and equality at Wayamba University of Sri Lanka by fostering a gender sensitive, inclusive, safe, and respectful university culture that enables all students and staff including academic, administrative, and support personnel to study, work, and participate free from discrimination, harassment, oppression, and gender based violence while ensuring equal opportunities, respect for diversity, and the protection of the rights and dignity of every member of the university community.

Objectives

  • To facilitate the establishment and strengthening of institutional structures and systems that promote gender equity and equality within the University.
  • To establish and implement an effective mechanism for the prevention and redress of sexual and gender based violence, discrimination, and harassment.
  • To strengthen grievance redress procedures related to sexual and gender based violence in collaboration with the relevant University authorities.
  • To support the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of the University Grants Commission Policy on Gender Equity and Equality within the University.
  • To promote the integration of gender perspectives into teaching, research, extension, and other academic activities of the University.
  • To conduct awareness programmes, training, and capacity building activities on gender equity and equality for students, academic staff, administrative staff, support staff, and the wider community.
  • To provide guidance and technical expertise on gender equity and equality to support University policies, programmes, and decision making.
